Marketplace Overview

The Data Marketplace is a curated storefront where teams publish production-ready data products for organization-wide discovery. It builds on the Data Catalog by adding quality gates, ratings, and a self-service browsing experience designed for data consumers.

Why a Marketplace?

The Data Catalog is your inventory of everything — every table, view, and model synced from your source systems. The Marketplace is your curated shop window: only products that meet quality standards appear here, giving consumers confidence that what they find is production-ready.

Key Concepts

Listings

A marketplace listing is a data product that has been explicitly published to the marketplace. Publishing promotes the product from the internal catalog to the shared storefront, where any user in the organization can browse it.

Quality Gates

Before a product can be published, Qarion evaluates a readiness checklist:

  • Description — The product must have a non-empty description
  • Owner — An owner must be assigned
  • Quality Checks — All linked quality checks must be passing

Products that don't meet these gates cannot be published until the issues are resolved.

Ratings & Reviews

Consumers can rate listings on a 5-star scale and leave optional text reviews. Ratings create a community-driven trust signal that helps other consumers evaluate data quality and usability.

Browsing the Marketplace

The marketplace presents listings in a card grid layout with:

  • Quality bar — Visual indicator of the product's quality score
  • Star rating — Average rating from consumer reviews
  • View count — How many times the listing has been viewed

Filtering & Sorting

You can filter the marketplace by:

  • Category — Business domain or topic area
  • Search — Full-text search across listing names and descriptions

And sort by:

  • Trending — Most viewed in the last 7 days
  • Newest — Most recently published
  • Top Rated — Highest average star rating

The marketplace homepage includes a hero section highlighting featured and trending listings, helping surface the most valuable datasets.

My Listings

Producers can access the My Listings tab to manage their published products. From here you can:

  • View all your published datasets
  • Check ratings and view counts
  • Unpublish listings (soft-archive, not hard delete)
