Data Questions

Data Questions provide a shared Q&A workspace for questions about data products, domains, reference datasets, and governance context. They are designed for questions that need a durable answer, not a one-off chat message.

When to Use Data Questions

Use Data Questions when you need to:

  • Ask who owns a metric, table, field, or reference dataset.
  • Clarify whether a data product is fit for a use case.
  • Route a question to stewards or domain experts.
  • Preserve an answer for future users searching the same topic.
  • Convert a discovered problem into an issue for investigation.

Thread Scope

Questions can be scoped to a space or to the wider organization. Space-scoped questions are best for operational questions about products and datasets in the current workspace. Organization-scoped questions are useful when ownership or impact crosses multiple domains.

Threads can be linked to domains, products, datasets, and routed users. These links help the right people find the question and help future readers understand the context.

Messages, Attachments, and Votes

Each thread starts with an initial question and continues as a message thread. Messages support Markdown, edits by the author, and file attachments. Attach query snippets, screenshots, sample rows, or external evidence when they help explain the question.

Users can vote on answers. Votes help highlight useful responses and give stewards a signal about which explanations resolved the question.

Summaries

Qarion can generate thread summaries when the configured trigger conditions are met. Summaries make long discussions easier to scan and help late readers see the accepted context, remaining uncertainty, and relevant follow-up work.

Issue Recommendations

When a reply identifies a likely data problem, Qarion can recommend creating an issue. Recommendations include confidence and category metadata, and can be turned into an issue so the investigation moves into the issue-management workflow while preserving a link back to the original question.

If the answer names specific bad records, Qarion can also draft record-level issues. The product must be linked to the thread or be conservatively inferred from a single product name mentioned in the title or discussion. Ambiguous mentions are ignored, and inferred products are added to the thread as mentioned links only when the draft record issue actually uses them.

Status and Filtering

Use thread status to keep the queue healthy:

StatusMeaning
OpenThe question still needs a useful answer or decision.
AnsweredThe thread has a useful answer but may still be referenced.
ResolvedThe question has been handled and no further action is expected.

Filters help you find unanswered questions, your mentions, cross-domain topics, specific products, or questions by author.
